What is Orthodontics?

Much of our confidence is tied up in the appearance of our smile. A simple fix or a full smile makeover might just change your life. Are you ready?

Why is orthodontics treatment important?

Orthodontics is the field of dentistry involved in fixing the patient's bite. Most orthodontic treatments performed at our practice are braces for teens and adults but we also do orthodontics treatment for children to correct problems with the bite as early as age 7.

What problems can be treated with orthodontics?

Orthodontics is a versatile branch of dentistry that can be used alone, or in combination with maxillofacial or cosmetic dentistry.

Here are some of the common conditions treated with orthodontics:

  • Bite problems :
  • Bite problems such as overbite, underbite, crossbite and teeth not coming together properly can all be corrected with orthodontics.
  • Crowding and spacing :
  • Crowding or spacing are common orthodontic problems. These problems can occur for many reasons and can be corrected with the proper orthodontic appliances.
  • Aesthetic problems :
  • A beautiful straight smile may be marred by a single misaligned tooth. This tooth can be realigned with orthodontic appliances.

Orthodontic Solutions

Some common orthodontic appliances that are used in our practice are listed below. Feel free to ask questions about any of these treatments.

  • Fixed orthodontic braces : A metal or ceramic bracket is placed on each tooth, and a wire is inserted through each bracket. When the desired results are achieved, the fixed dental braces are completely removed.
  • Removable appliances : There are a few removable orthodontic appliances that we use in our practice. These appliance are used to correct crossbites or to hold space while adult teeth are erupting in order to help prevent future crowding.
  • Clear Correct® : This is a newer, removable type of dental aligner that is completely transparent. Clear Correct® does not interfere with eating because of its removable nature, and mechanically works in the similar way to traditional metal dental braces. Not all patients are candidates for Clear Correct®.
